For most of us, our homes represent one of our biggest investments, and the kitchen, as the heart of the home, can add or detract from the overall value of the property. As such, your countertops can be one of the biggest attractions to consider when renovating, updating, or planning to sell. Investing in countertops that are not merely beautiful but also well maintained & free of damage will boost the resale value of your home. If your countertops are looking dull, scratched, worn, faded, cracked, or broken you might think you have to replace them.

At Surface Link, we specialize in countertops just like yours, offering a range of services designed to repair damage, renew worn surfaces, and transform the look of your space. Saving big by repairing rather than replacing, means you’ll have more left in your budget to spend on your home’s to-do list.

From minor chips to major cracks, we can manage most issues by repairing, polishing, restoring, refinishing or sealing your countertop. We’ll correct the unsightly problems and leave you with a brilliantly smooth, gleaming surface that is bright and colorful. Surface Link works with many types of countertops, including granite, quartz, Corian, marble, and solid surface to restore them to like-new condition. Here’s everything you need to know to start transforming your home.

Granite Countertops Repair and Restoration

Granite is one of the hardest materials on the planet. Because of this, it makes excellent countertops that resist impact damage, chipping, staining, scratching, and thermal shock. However, even granite can be damaged with time and use. Dragging pots or appliances on the surface can scratch or gouge the surface, while abrasive cleaners can degrade the protective sealant. Hot, heavy pans placed directly on the surface can leave marks and discolored spots. Also, an improperly installed granite countertop is more likely to suffer damage, but all are vulnerable in certain circumstances.

All stone naturally has fissures, including granite. These fissures won’t hurt the countertop or affect its performance. Cracks, on the other hand, can harbor bacteria and moisture-loving mold and mildew. You’re most likely to see cracks along the edge of the counter, near the cooktop, around the sink, and in other high-stress areas.

A cracked granite countertop doesn’t necessarily mean its lifespan is over. In most cases, granite can be resurfaced, restored, and renewed. Our team can buff out minor scratches and stains and reseal the stone to protect it. We can repair both minor and major cracks and worn sealant, restore and refinish your countertop, and leave you with a brilliant, clean countertop ready to be used.

Quartz Countertops Repair and Restoration

Even harder than granite, quartz countertops are designed to go the distance. They’re made with up to 90% quartz combined with resin and pigment, making them low maintenance, easy to clean, and durable. Quartz surfaces are heat-resistant, too, but not heatproof, which means they can develop unsightly discolorations, and even cracks if they’re exposed to high heat.

Abrasive, alkaline, acidic cleaners, and some scrubbing pads can also disrupt the finish and etch the surface of quartz countertops. You can reduce the risk of damage by always using trivets or hot pads, cleaning up spills right away, and applying only gentle cleaners with a soft cloth.

When you notice damage, call a professional as soon as possible. Surface Link can fix the damage and restore your countertop to one that looks and functions at its peak.

Corian Countertops Repair and Restoration

Corian countertops are solid surface countertops made up of a blend of acrylic and pigment. More affordable than granite and quartz, Corian brand countertops blend beauty with budget-friendliness for an attractive surface that works in any home.

Corian is heat-resistant, but not heatproof. Using trivets or hot pads to protect is necessary. Corian is easy to clean because it is non-porous. Using a mild detergent or countertop cleanser removes most stains.

If you notice wear and tear, heat or impact damage, etching or hazing, we can help. We repair chips and cracks and refinish your Corian to a brilliant result. Corian is easy to modify and sometimes can be cut to fit a new cooktop, stove, range or sink. Cracked sink replacements are our specialty. Whether you want a new integrated Corian sink, stainless steel sink, or farmhouse sink we’ve got you covered without replacing your existing countertop.

Marble Countertops Repair and Restoration

Marble is one of the most desirable surfaces for modern countertops. Marble has a distinctive finish, but it can etch easily since Marble is the softest of countertop materials so it needs to be protected.  Marble is a natural stone, but it can sustain damage from hot pots placed directly on the countertop. Acidic and abrasive cleaning products should be avoided as they can injure the Marble surface. Spills like wine and tomato sauce can create a dull spot on your countertop so cleaning up messes promptly is critical.

Marble countertops need to be resealed regularly for best results. Most minor and moderate damage is fixable. Our team can restore broken or damaged marble countertops by honing and polishing surfaces, resealing worn areas, and repairing chips, cracks, stains, etching, and more.

Solid Surface Countertops Repair and Restoration

Solid surface countertops, including Corian and other brands, are made using minerals, resins, and pigments. They’re seamless and nonporous, making them a safe and sanitary surface for food prep and other kitchen activities. They maintain their appearance year after year. With a solid surface countertop, you’ll be able to clean your kitchen easily since these durable surfaces can stand up to most common household cleansers without losing their texture and appeal.

However, because the material is not as hard as stone, solid surface countertops can become worn looking over time. This is normal, but left unaddressed, wear and tear can detract from the beauty and functionality of your space. Heat and impacts can chip, crack, and damage countertops. Our team offers all types of repairs, saving you the stress and expense of replacing the countertop. We use a variety of techniques and procedures to repair cracks, eliminate chips, and refinish your solid surface countertop to give it new life again.

Protecting Your Countertops

Kitchen countertops are designed to withstand some harsh conditions, but damage is sometimes inevitable. With proper care, your countertops should be able to last decades. You can keep yours in like-new condition with a few simple steps.

First, clean carefully. Use only the recommended products for your countertop. For example, you need to use granite cleaners for granite countertops. Solid surface countertops and Corian, on the other hand, can handle many standard household cleaners. You need to know what kind of countertop you have and the best way to clean it. If you’re not sure, let us know, and we’ll help you get your cleaning regimen down to an art.

Next, use a cutting board. Cutting, slicing, and chopping are all necessary parts of food prep, but they can damage certain countertops, like Corian. Others like stone, can stand up to occasional use of sharp objects on its surface, but the countertop can dull your knives. A cutting board creates a buffer between the knives and the countertop and protects both. If you notice scratches or chips, Surface Link can repair them to keep your countertop feeling like new.

Also, clean spills promptly. Spills are inevitable in food prep spaces. Still, not all spills are equally damaging.  Wipe up acidic foods and liquids, like citrus juice, tomato sauce, and wine using recommended cleaners. Otherwise, the acid they contain could etch the surface, dull the finish, or leave a stain.

Remember to use trivets or hot pads. Stone countertops can withstand high temperatures, but they can still be damaged by heat. This is because thermal shock occurs when, for example, a pan of boiling water is set on a cold marble or granite countertop. The result can be a crack that needs to be repaired. We use a proprietary method to repair and restore countertops to eliminate flaws.

Lastly, don’t put weight on your countertop. You shouldn’t sit on your countertop, or let kids do the same. Excess weight could crack the countertop, especially at overhang areas. These overhangs need to be supported by brackets, and if they’re not, are susceptible to damage. Over time, the damage can spread. Toaster ovens that sit on top of the countertop can crack or burn, so use these appliances sparingly. If you have found a large seam separation in your countertop, this might be why. Don’t get a replacement. Call us for a repair instead.

The best way to prevent damage, and protect your countertop investment is to have your granite countertops sealed. We recommend sealing Granite countertops at least once per year. Otherwise, granite and other porous stone countertops can absorb liquid, leading to stains and discolorations. We apply sealant to protect the underlying slab from damage, preserving its appearance and maximizing the life of the top.

Addressing problems quickly also helps to prevent further damage. Small chips can lead to larger problems, and small fissures can quickly become cracks. If you notice that your countertop has damage, whether a small stain or a hairline crack, give us a call. We can evaluate the imperfection and provide you with options that best suit your needs.
